About Mechanical

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 2008-2009 with the basic objective of providing a quality learning environment, in terms of inspiring teachers, state-of-the-art facilities, experience sharing and widening the knowledge, interacting with experts from academia and industry, facilitating the student in the process of growth in the Mechanical Engineering field. Right from its inception, the department has been offering well-built infrastructural facilities with different technical platforms for grooming professional students to meet the persistent demands of the Industries.

  • To fulfill this objective, the technical advancements are updated regularly. The sanctioned intake per year is 60 students in the year 2008, 2009, and 2010. The sanctioned intake per year is increased to 120 students in the year 2011-2012 and subsequently to 180 students in the year 2013-2014. The department extended its service to offer PG Programme in Engineering Design in the year 2014-2015 with an intake of 24 students
  • The Department of Mechanical Engineering has well equipped with modern laboratories. Engineering Practice Lab having foundry, welding, sheet metal, plumbing and carpentry sections to give wide knowledge for a capacity to hold 60 students. Manufacturing Technology Lab is having 23 engine lathes and various special machines including Gear Hobbing machine. Fluid Mechanics and Machinery lab is having various pumps and turbines. Strength of Materials lab has various testing equipment especially 100 ton capacity Universal Testing Machine for Research purpose. For CAD & Simulation lab, there is one Servers (1-Linux server ) connected to 70 distributed nodes and having 60 Solid works software and Master CAM software licences.
  • CAM laboratory is equipped with CNC Milling machine and CNC Lathe. Thermal laboratory is equipped with Advance engines, mini power plant with Boiler – Turbine and Heat Transfer Testing equipments. Dynamics lab is having capacity to accommodate 60 students. Engineering Metrology lab is equipped with various advance measuring instruments.
  • The department is vibrant in professional body activities, our Faculty and Students are active members of SAE and through these avenues various programmes are conducted to get exposure on recent technologies.
  • Students are encouraged to participate in various activities like paper presentation, technical quiz, symposium, designing, robotics contests, national conferences, sports, NSS, YRC, and cultural activities. Students are motivated to undergo In-Plant Training every year and two Industrial Visits are arranged per year to get industry exposure.

Welcome to Mechanical Engineering at St. Peter’s College of Engineering & Technology. Our graduates worked in almost every technology based industry; Automotive, Electric power generation, Product design, Materials Handling, Quality Control, Manufacturing, Robotics, Private and Public Sectors.Our goal for undergraduate students is to give them a high quality education that includes hands-on-experience. Each of our faculty members is ready and willing to work in their research specialty with capable students on projects. There are numerous opportunities for our students to participate in student organization. The Society of Mechanical Engineering and the Society of Automotive Engineers, student sections have been among the most active in the country from the past few years.We strive to ensure that all our undergraduate students and post graduate students have a strong education with teaming and leadership skills, involvement in student activities and the practical background of co-op and internship experience. We believe that emphasizing these areas will make our students well qualified to take leadership roles in the future.Our department looks forward to contribute solving the technological changes of the society with active participation from all sections of the society.
